Study Mode Full-Time
This qualification aims to provide the skills and knowledge you need to perform in various roles in the conservation and ecosystem management field. The areas where this knowledge would be valued include Indigenous land management, ecosystem restoration, rehabilitation and renewal, conservation works, parks and wildlife management and administration. This diploma will allow you to bridge the gap between working and the field and management of field-based work.
This course includes units that will provide you with new tools to take back to the workplace such as GIS and biological surveys. It will also develop your ability and confidence to produce documents that are valuable in the management of the land and its ecosystems. You will produce a Management Plan for an area that is of interest to you that will provide you with an opportunity to gain or improve your employment prospects.
Further develop your skills in Conservation and Ecosystem Management. This qualification aims to take your skills that you have developed in the field and make you ready to move into more managerial roles. During the course you will gain more skills around the development of documents, for an ecological area that is of interest to you. We begin by introducing new tools such as Geographic Information Systems and Conducting Biological Surveys with culturally appropriate knowledge. During this phase we undertake two five-day workshops where you spend time in the field collecting data for your reports. We access the conditions of a river and a cultural site which are used for GIS in the first term and we estimate the biology of an urban river during the second term. In the second half of the course, you develop a Management Plan for an area of interest to you or your employer. We will visit your site and assess its fire fuel loads and then you will plan an ecological restoration, which feeds into the overall Management Plan.
After completing this course, you will be able to participate in a wide variety of roles that require field-based knowledge and office-based work. This will draw on your existing know edge of the environment and builds your skills to produce a professional Management Plan.
