When you complete this course, you will be ready for a career in the heavy automotive sector. You will have the skills and knowledge to carry out diagnostic procedures and undertake appropriate repairs, identifying and applying safe work practices in the heavy automotive industry. This course will expand your knowledge and practical skills specific to heavy commercial vehicles, including steering, braking and hydraulic systems.  (NB. You will need to be employed and registered as an apprentice/trainee before you can undertake this course). 

Half-price

This course is part of the Lower fees, local skills initiative. From 1 January 2020 through to 31 December 2025 you'll only pay half the course fees, capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession, plus resource fees and other fees that may apply to your course.

    Typical timetable 

    This qualification is usually delivered as block release mode where you will be required to attend class over five consecutive days multiple times throughout your apprenticeship

    Class times: 8.00am - 4.30pm

    Notification of required attendance will be issued via callup email to the apprentice and employer

    Dress requirements / PPE
    • Enclosed steel capped safety boots - Heavy leather uppers and heavy-duty soles
    • Long heavy cotton drill trousers and cotton drill shirt
    • Safety glasses must meet Australian Safety Standards
    • Disposable earplugs, gloves and dust masks will be supplied, where required.
    • Long hair must be tied-up or contained.
