Albany Campus - Workshop 1 -  Growing permaculture plants

Description: Design your own propagation program and grow the plants needed for a permaculture food forest in our temperate climate. Save hundreds of dollars and reduce your carbon footprint by propagating locally sourced plant material and incorporating up-cycled materials into your garden system.

Albany Campus - Workshop 2 - Enjoying the permaculture yield

Description: Learn how to make the most of a bountiful harvest by preserving and storing what you have grown. In this workshop, we’ll spend a weekend in the kitchen learning preserving techniques and long-term storage methods. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to make marmalade, chutney, sauerkraut, kimchi or passata – this is your chance!

Albany Campus - Workshop 3 - Permaculture structures

Description: Learn how to use local and reclaimed materials to build garden structures. This workshop, run over two weekends, will teach you how to set out footings for a structure, build with straw bales and render your creation to give you a garden feature that will last for many years. If you haven’t played in the mud for a while and want to release your inner child, this is a great course for you.

Albany Campus - Workshop 4 - Permaculture water systems

Description: This course will teach you how to install and maintain an aquaponics system to grow fish and vegetables on a small footprint. Fertiliser from the fish feeds the plants and the plants clean the water, which circulates back down to the fish. We will also cover other water systems such as swales, micro irrigation, bores, dams and constructed wetlands.

Description: At the end of this short course, you will feel confident in your understanding of permaculture concepts and design principles and how they apply to day-to-day life. You will be able to recommend plants and animals suitable to a permaculture system in our temperate climate and will have the necessary skills to design your own productive integrated garden. The course includes field trips to visit inspiring permaculture gardens incorporating integrated plant and animal systems.

Albany Campus - Workshop 6 - A permaculture backyard

Description: If 2020 has taught us anything, it is that our food supply system is vulnerable. One way to protect ourselves against shortages is to grow our own food and have a healthy and active lifestyle in the process. Become part of a team working together to establish a new permaculture garden in Albany, learn new skills and meet people who are on the same journey. Learn about zones, sectors and guilds and develop a plan for a food forest. Visit permaculture backyard and be inspired to grow you own food in a small or large space, The course includes lots of practical hands-on activities as well as time for learning and discussion about sustainable culture.

Albany Campus - Workshop 7 - Permaculture structures 

Description: This course will teach you how to build and install permaculture structures and how to maintain and repair existing infrastructure. Build a pizza overn using sustainable construction techniques and a variety of hand and power tools. Or construct a gazebo or hothouse, we will provide all the materials and personal protective equipment and instruction so that you can take away the skills and knowledge to build you own permaculture structure.

Description: Gain the skills and knowledge to look after soil, plants and animals in your permaculture system. Identify pests, diseases and disorders and learn how to treat them with minimal disruption to the environment. Learn how to make compost and how to integrate a worm farm into your system.
