Description

This course is for those seeking to obtain the mandatory licence required to meet Health Department requirements for a Pest Management Technician licence if you are spraying chemicals for commercial gain.
These competencies are required to be completed where mechanical equipment is used to apply pesticides. Examples include boom spraying equipment including quad bike mounted or air blast equipment.
It may lead to employment in broadacre spraying of crops & pastures, forestry, pest & weed control in non-cropping situations and turf Management.

Skills and knowledge elements include:
    Common weeds found in WA
    Common weed controls used in WA (following Integrated Pest Management strategies)
    Safe disposal of chemical residue and containers
    Correct Personal Protective Equipment for selected control measures
    Understanding a chemical label, schedules and use of chemicals
    Understanding Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
    Groups of chemicals and their formulations

This course is delivered flexibly over a 10 week period.

Entry requirements

It is recommended that participants completing this course have significant prior knowledge and skills in spraying chemicals if looking to obtain a spraying license for broadacre spraying with mechanical equipment.

On successful completion of this course, students will receive a statement of attainment for the following nationally accredited units.

    AHCCHM304 Transport & Store Chemicals
    AHCPMG301 Control Weeds
    AHCPMG302 Control Plant Pests, Diseases and Disorders
    AHCCHM401 Develop Procedures to Minimise Risks in the Use of Chemicals
    AHCCHM402 Plan & Implement a Chemical Use Program
