Chloe’s Training Awards experience inspires others

The Western Australian Vocational Student of the Year Chloe Baigent has encouraged other TAFE students to apply for a student award after returning from the Australian Training Awards ceremony.

Chloe, who was also announced as the South Regional TAFE Student of the Year in 2019, travelled to Brisbane as a finalist in the Australian Training Awards ceremony in November.

Chloe completed a Certificate IV in Youth Work at the Busselton campus.

Although Chloe wasn’t a winner at the national level she said she felt very fortunate to have experienced the event as well as the workshops and training sessions she was able to attend in the lead up to the awards.

“I got to hear a lot of inspirational stories from others who talked about how their vocational training had been life changing,” she said.

“The unique stories really highlighted the importance of vocational education and training which is sometimes overlooked by the wider community.

“We also attended a dinner at the ICE (Institute of Culinary Excellence) where we heard from several guest speakers.

“The most interesting workshop was a policy hack brainstorming session about career advice. It was great to be able to have my say on what effective career advice should look like in the future.

“As a youth worker I can share inspirational stories and spread the word about the relevance of vocational training,” Chloe said.

“Not everyone has to complete ATAR in order to succeed.”

“So much personal development can happen through applying for a Training Award if you are willing to share your own story,” Chloe said.

“I would encourage anyone who thinks that their Vocational training story can inspire others, to apply for a South Regional TAFE Student Award or WA Training Award.”

Nominations for South Regional TAFE Student Awards close Friday 31 January 2020. Students who completed their qualification at South Regional TAFE in 2019 are eligible to apply:

Applications for the WA Training Awards open Monday 10 February and close Friday 1 May 2020.
