Description

This 5 day WHS Representatives course is for anyone who is or is about to become a Work Health and Safety Representative in your organisation.

Representatives from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply as there are no formal pre-requisites or qualifications required for a person to participate in and be successful in undertaking the functions of a safety and health representative.

The 5 day WorkSafe Western Australia accredited course for WHS Representatives will provide representatives with information and skills to enable them to effectively carry out their role as "representatives" of employees, and as defined under Section 68 of the Act.

The course is specifically designed to achieve the objectives of the Act offering a balanced approach with emphasis on cooperation and consultation and representatives' participation in the development and formulation of safety and health policy and procedures at the workplace.

This course covers:

  • how to apply the legislative requirements to the workplace
  • how to apply the principles of Risk Management by participating in and conducting a workplace inspection
  • how to apply the techniques of accident investigation
  • how to assist the employer in the development of accident prevention controls and systems
  • how to effectively communicate with the employer and employees on safety and health matters

Certification

On completion of this course, participants will receive a Statement of Attendance from South Regional TAFE.

This is a non accredited course, however participants who would like to achieve formal recognition of the skills gained through course participation can apply for five units of competence from BSB30715 Certificate III in Work Health and Safety. This will require you to submit a number of work place assignments that will then be formally assessed by an SRT assessor who will make a decision about competency being deemed. Information about the units and assessment process will be provided at the commencement of the representatives training. Additional fees apply.
