It is a legal requirement to hold your Responsible Service of Alcohol certificate if you wish to work in a licensed venue and you are selling or serving alcohol. You must be 18 to sell or serve alcohol.
This short course will give you the skills and the ability to engage in the sale or service of alcohol responsibly.

Essential Skills
- Communication Skills: Clearly and effectively communicate with customers and colleagues. This includes explaining policies and refusing service when necessary.
- Observation Skills: Be able to recognise signs of intoxication, such as slurred speech, impaired coordination, and changes in behaviour.
- Customer Service: Provide excellent service while maintaining a safe environment. This includes handling difficult situations with tact and professionalism.
- Problem-Solving: Quickly and effectively address issues that arise, such as dealing with intoxicated patrons or handling conflicts.
- Teamwork: Work well with your team to ensure consistent and responsible service practices.
Essential Knowledge
- Legal Requirements: Understand the laws and regulations related to alcohol service in your area, including legal drinking age, hours of service, and responsible serving practices.
- Alcohol Effects: Know how alcohol affects the body and behaviour and be able to identify signs of intoxication.
- Responsible Serving Practices: Implement strategies to promote responsible drinking, such as offering non-alcoholic beverages and encouraging food consumption alongside alcohol.
- ID Verification: Be proficient in checking identification to prevent underage drinking.
- Safety Procedures: Understand how to handle emergencies and ensure the safety of all patrons.
Time Commitment – You will need to allocate appropriate time to complete this course. This includes attending classes on-site and/or online as outlined in the study mode; undertake independent study outside of class hours, including private study, assessment preparation, research and complete assessment requirements.
