General Construction

The construction industry is a major sector of the Western Australian workforce and economy, and encompasses a huge variety of career pathways. It is closely aligned to building and includes a large range of trades such as carpentry and joinery, glass, bricklaying and glazing and roof plumbing, as well as an array of fields like site management, line management, estimating and contracting.

A0767P Asbestos Removal Short Course Albany

Description

This course is for asbestos removal operators who wish to apply for a licence from WorkSafe. Anyone removing more than 10 square metres of asbestos must undertake this training prior to applying for a licence.

This training course will also train personnel of all levels so they can quickly identify likely hazardous materials.

It will include the examination of real life materials to illustrate the appearance of asbestos in a variety of wastes.

Participants will be provided with the skills required to be able to properly supervise, manage and carry out asbestos work involving non-friable (bonded) asbestos-containing material.

This course covers:

    Legislative framework
    Risk management
    Removal and disposal of non friable (bonded) asbestos

Certification

This is an assessable and non accredited course. You will be required to undertake a written assessment. Candidates will be awarded with a Statement of Completion which is required to apply for the licence.

This course cost DOES NOT include the WorkSafe application fee of $833.70. All participants requiring a Restricted Asbestos Licence will be required to submit the application to Work Safe, which includes:

    a written application form for a Restricted Asbestos Licence
    an application fee, ($833.70 as of July 2018)
    evidence of approved training (completion of this course)

A Restricted Asbestos Removal Licence is valid for three years.

South Regional TAFE has a purpose built customised training facility onsite at our Albany Campus.

MAA13 Excavator Short Course Albany

Description

This course trains novice operators in the skills required to enter the industry as a certified excavator operator.

The course covers:
    Plan and prepare for hydraulic excavator operations
    Operate hydraulic excavator
    Carry out operator maintenance
    Carry out housekeeping activities

Certification

On successful completion of this course, students will receive a statement of attainment for the following nationally accredited units.

Description

This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to operate a forklift truck safely.
Participants will learn how to operate a forklift truck by planning the work, conducting routine checks on a forklift truck, shifting loads in a safe manner and safely shut down and secure equipment after completing operations.

Description

This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to gain a WorkSafe License to Perform High Risk Work in Basic Scaffolding Operations.
Anyone who wishes to obtain this license is required to complete this training.

    selecting and inspecting equipment
    setting up for the task
    erecting and dismantling scaffolding

MAA75 Licence to Perform Dogging Short Course Albany

Description

This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to perform slinging techniques, including the selection and inspection of lifting gear and directing the crane operator in the movement of a load when the load is out of view of the operator. 
The work described in this course relates to the National Standards for licensing persons performing high risk work. On successful completion of this course you will be able to apply for a high risk licence through Worksafe.

Description

This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills required to gain a WorkSafe Licence to Perform High Risk Work in Basic Rigging.

Description

The safe loading of vehicles is vitally important in preventing injury to people and damage to property. There are economic benefits to all if the load arrives at its destination intact and without damage.

If you are a heavy vehicle driver and part of your job role is to transport loads from one destination to another, then this course is designed and aimed at ensuring you have a clear understanding of ensuring the load you are transporting is safe and secure while in transit.

This course is provided to ensure that you and your colleagues become familiar with the general principles of load restraint and the use of the new Load Restraint Guide. It is not a formal training day on load restraint, but rather an information day to ensure that your awareness of load restraint issues is raised, and that you are able to navigate the content of the new Load Restraint Guide.

MAA80 Traffic Management Short Course Albany

Description

This course is for people who want to work in traffic management on public roads and other designated traffic management areas.
It will provide trainees with the knowledge and skills required to be able to safely control traffic with a stop/slow bat in accordance with Main Roads WA requirements and to implement basic traffic management plans for works on roads.

    Set out the traffic guidance scheme

MAA08 White Card Short Course Bunbury

Description

To enter a building site in Australia it is a requirement to hold a current General Induction card, also known as a 'White Card' (formerly Blue Card). The card is valid for use on all construction sites in Australia.

This training reinforces the Occupational Health and Safety roles and responsibilities of employees and employers aimed at raising the safety standards in the construction industry.
