Courses at Narrogin

The Narrogin Campus is situated in a double-storey building dating back to the early 1920s. While the outside is historically picturesque, the campus has modern facilities for a range of courses including business and finance, information technology, nursing, education support, aged care and literacy and numeracy classes.

In addition to the Narrogin Campus, we also have two other facilities in town. The first building, in the town centre, houses our wool and shearing academy and our automotive workshop. Our arts centre and horticulture nursery is at the second building on Doney Street.

The Narrogin campuses offer face-to-face training and flexible delivery.

A range of short courses also offered includes Auschem, Forklift, Chainsaw Training,  First Aid, Recreational Skippers Ticket and a range of agricultural-based short courses such as fencing, tractor driving and quad bike operation.

Specifically designed courses and workshops for Indigenous students are offered periodically throughout the year. Indigenous students are also encouraged to enrol in any other courses they are interested in and qualify for.

Description

This course covers the process of maintaining, preparing and operating hand-held chainsaws in a work environment.

These skills can be transferred to the homestead, are useful for home gardners and could lead to employment in parks and gardens or landscaping.

You will gain skills and knowledge in understanding the correct type of chainsaw for a particular task, how to use the chainsaw, maintain the chainsaw and store suitable personal protective equipment.

You will also carry out routine checks and maintenance on a chainsaw, apply appropriate chainsaw techniques, cutting methods according to manufacturer’s specifications and documented low risk work procedures; assess and minimise environmental impacts of chainsaw use; maintain records of chainsaw training and certification, risk assessment and use.

This childcare course is completed over 2 years commencing in Semester 1 each year. It is ideal for those persons with a passion for working with young children. There is a large emphasis on practical application of your skills. Work placements will be organised by the college in local early childhood enterprises. If you are already working in the industry, you may wish to enquire to study as a flexible student and complete assessments on work-based projects. Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is also available for people with substantive, recent industry experience in a licensed Early Childhood Education and Care setting.

This qualification is for educators in early childhood education and care services who are responsible for planning, implementing and managing programs in accordance with approvals, quality rating systems and duty of care requirements.
