How would you like to be part of a team producing beautiful food in one of WA’s restaurants, cafes, bars, resorts or hotels?
This skill set covers all the ‘must know’ skills that employers are looking for, so you’ll be skills ready and job ready!
In the Commercial Kitchen Skill Set you will learn about the safe use of commercial kitchen equipment, how to clean food preparation areas, storage areas and equipment efficiently whilst minimising negative environmental impacts.
It also includes how to prevent food contamination including identifying and controlling food hazards and general kitchen and food preparation skills. The skill set also covers how to comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures.

Certification

On successful completion of this course, students will receive a statement of attainment for the following units

HLTINFCOV001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures
SITHCCC001 Use food preparation equipment
SITHKOP001 Clean kitchen premises and equipment
SITXFSA001 Use hygiene practices for food safety
SITXWHS001 Participate in safe work practices

Fees

Student who meet one or more of the following eligibility requirements will be eligible for fee free (course and resource fee) training.
Eligibility requirements

  • Persons aged 15—24 years at the time of enrolment (excluding school students)
  • Secondary school-aged persons who are not enrolled at school.
  • Persons receiving the JobSeeker or JobKeeper payment.
  • Persons and dependents of persons receiving the Youth Allowance, AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY.
  • Persons and dependents of persons holding:
    • a Pensioner Concession Card or Health Care Card; or
    • a Repatriation Health Benefits Card issued by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
  • Dependents of persons who are inmates of a custodial institution.

Students who do not meet one or more of the criteria listed above are able to enrol in the skill sets and pay the applicable course and resource fees in accordance with the Department of Training and Workforce Development’s current Fees and Charges Policy, available at dtwd.wa.gov.au.

Occupations relating to this skill set include cooks, chefs, caterers, kitchen stewards, kitchen hands, and bar and food and beverage servers and attendants.
