Shania’s living the dream

Shania Rodd always wanted to work in the beauty industry when she left school and planned to take a beauty therapy course at TAFE.

To enrol in the course, though, she needed to reach the required standard of reading, writing and maths, and Shania knew her maths was not up to standard.

So first, she enrolled in a Certificate in General Education for Adults (CGEA) course to improve her literacy and numeracy.

With the individual help and support of her lecturers, Shania quickly improved her maths as well as her literacy skills, enabling her to gain entry into the beauty therapy course.

She said the CGEA classes had been enjoyable and her lecturers had been helpful and supportive. She also appreciated the adult learning environment of TAFE.

“I learnt a lot and I’d recommend it to others because you get all the support you need,” Shania said.

Her achievements in the CGEA course gave her the confidence to take to further training and enter the workforce, and now, Shania is studying beauty therapy at TAFE and working in a salon, where she also learns on the job.

Shania loves all aspects of her beauty therapy course and plans to continue working in the industry once she finishes her study.
